Samaritan House seeks a community with all basic needs met leading to participation, empowerment and social justice for all.
Samaritan House collaborates with public, non-profit and interfaith agencies to provide a continuum of care to those in crisis due to homelessness and poverty while seeking social transformation by identifying and addressing the causes of poverty at the local level.
Samaritan House Has a long history helping the most vulnerable of our community's citizens. Samaritan House was founded by several Las Vegas churches in 1977. It was originally designed to be an overnight transient facility, but has grown to be a vital part of the greater Las Vegas Community. Samaritan House now has a Food Pantry program which distributes food to approximately 300 households each month. The shelter provided overnight shelter to 324 unduplicated individuals for 820 bed nights and over 4,000 meals during 2013. The thrift Store continues to offer the community affordable used clothing and household items as well as providing clothing vouchers to 370 households. These services would not be possible without the hundreds of hours of time donated by volunteers in which we are truly grateful.
Samaritan House also runs a Community Transitional Housing Program which eligible homeless persons to be able to stand on their own two feet. Families and/or individuals are helped with housing needs; assisted to find a place to live, and rent and deposits are paid upon entry into the program. Also other supportive services are provided including case management and referral to other resources.
The Samaritan House Offices and Pantry are located at 220 Bernalillo and are open Monday through Friday from 9:15am to 4pm. The Casa de Samaritan Shelter is located at 716 Grand Avenue. The shelter is open 7 days a week from 6-8pm and offers nightly meals, a place to shower, and laundry facilities to shelter participants. Samaritan House provides a cold weather shelter offering overnight housing from Nov 1- March 31. The Thrift Store is located at 720 Legion Drive and is open from 9-5pm M-F and 10-2 pm Saturdays.
